To target a worldwide audience, particularly in English, you need a comprehensive understanding of general trending terms across platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. A collaborative approach ensures you can cover all bases and maximize your reach.
Key Tools for Trending Research
vidIQ: A Recommended YouTube Tool
- Check overall scores for specific keywords.
- Assess competition and volume.
- Identify top channels and related keywords.
- Monitor views per hour and video performance.
Look for red stickers indicating that a video is outperforming in its topic. If you find a video with high views but relatively few subscribers, it’s a good candidate for inspiration.
Using this data, you can draft your content based on successful thumbnails, titles, and tags from high-performing videos.
TikTok Search Engine and Creator Tool
TikTok offers a robust search engine and creator tool. By entering search terms, you can find popular related keywords and top content. TikTok also has a trend hub accessible through Google search, where you can stay updated on current trends.
Additionally, typing “TikTok trends” in Google will lead you to TikTok’s trend hub. Social media scheduling apps like Later can also provide insights on weekly or monthly trends.
Instagram Reels Feed
Instagram’s Reels feed is another great source of inspiration. Browsing the Reels section and noting trending audio and content can provide valuable insights. The professional dashboard on Instagram offers additional inspirational content and analytics.
Tips for Creating Social Media Content
YouTube Videos
For YouTube, the ratio between video views and subscriber numbers is crucial. Target videos with high views but fewer subscribers. These indicate untapped potential that you can exploit using proper targeting strategies, tags, and SEO-optimized titles.
Short-Form Videos
For TikTok and other short-form video platforms, look for videos with at least 100 likes, created within the past year. If a video from a small account has high views, it’s a good opportunity to leverage trending audio, memes, remixes, and other popular features like TikTok’s Stitch feature.

1. Trending Research
Begin with a thorough analysis of your target audience persona. This might take weeks or months, but it’s vital for understanding your audience fully. With a complete picture of what interests your audience, you can start looking up relevant SEO keywords, trending audio, and inspiration to incorporate into your content pillars.
2. Content Pillars
Develop specific content pillars based from prior trending research and SEO-friendly topics. My team and I usually create seven to twelve content pillars for each niche to balance entertainment, education, and value for the audience.
3. Script and Film
Create the script and film the video, showcasing the face either for personal brand or business content, or create visual drafts based on trends if not showing a face.

An engaging caption with a call-to-action (CTA) and optimized hashtags enhance reach and engagement. Despite some beliefs, hashtags are still relevant for search optimization and should be utilized effectively.
6. Content Confirmation and Publishing
Follow a two-step confirmation process to audit content before scheduling, publishing, and monitoring it.
