That was my story, too…

I always had my sights set on
an advertising career since high school.

When my Korean SAT scores weren't high enough for marketing programs at major universities,
I chose to study dental hygiene for its stability.
During that time, I thought you needed a top university to succeed in marketing.

The work was meaningful, but I quickly realized that the four walls of a dental clinic restrained the person I was becoming.

Every day felt like following someone else’s script. I almost didn’t know what I wanted to become…
because even switching clinics didn’t solve the issue – I needed creative freedom.

Even while working in dental clinics, I couldn’t stop my curiosity about marketing.

In 2017, I saw the Korean Publishers Cooperative hosting a marketing competition and decided to participate.
They didn’t ask for credentials, so my lack of formal background wasn’t an issue.

People didn’t believe in our team’s ability to perform well against established marketing teams.

I led our team to win the 1st prize by converting 25% of online traffic to offline visits using organic campaigns. Our breakthrough insight was beautifully simple: if you want to promote a ‘book street,’ go where the book lovers already gather – local libraries & their online space.

That victory started to shape my journey.

After building experience through various marketing roles and volunteer projects with international companies, I got my first paid client in 2021 and knew I’d found my calling.

In mid-2022, I had to register the company due to rising revenue, and we won a government grant competition that officially launched HY Marketing with our first expo campaign.

Today, over 6K social media followers rely on my global marketing insights, and HY Marketing is trusted by international brands across more than 9 industries.

What began as a frustrated dream in dental clinics had become something I never imagined – a bridge helping brands speak authentic languages across cultures.

She lives in South Korea and serves clients worldwide through consulting, workshops, coaching programs, and agency services.

Hyein Yoon is the founder of HY Marketing and a cross-cultural marketing strategist specializing in Korean and Japanese market entry. She also helps service providers scale globally through 1-on-1 coaching programs.

Born and raised in Korea with a natural curiosity for global marketing trends, she creates strategic bridges between local cultural insight and international business growth. Her journey from being a dental hygienist to a global marketing strategist reflects her belief that success comes from strategic thinking and cultural intelligence.
