Step 1: Understand Your Phase and Set Your Objective

Before jumping into content creation, you first need to assess where your brand currently stands. Are you in the awareness phase, struggling to get attention and grow your followers? Or do you already have some followers and engagement, but need to nurture that audience and convert them into leads?

Here’s how to break it down
Awareness Phase

If you’re just starting out or struggling to build your following, focus on getting your brand noticed. You need to increase your visibility and impressions so more people start to recognize your brand.

Engagement Phase

Once you have some followers, it’s time to focus on engagement. Building a community and creating conversation around your brand is crucial. I’ll explain how to maximize engagement later.

Lead Generation Phase

When you have solid engagement, the next step is lead generation. Offer valuable resources and guide your audience to convert them into leads.

While the final step is sales, we won’t focus on it in this blog. I’ll keep it to awareness, engagement, and lead generation, as these are the stages that build a strong foundation for your brand to make the actual sales.

Step 2: Analyze Your Competitors’ Top-Performing Content

Understanding what works for other brands is crucial. You can’t just assume that any piece of content will perform well. You need to analyze and model what others have done successfully.

Here’s what to focus on
Metrics Matter

First, compare two important metrics: followers and engagement. For example, if a brand has 1,000 followers but 500 likes and comments on a post, it shows a high engagement rate, even if the follower count is low. On the other hand, a brand with 2 million followers but only 50 likes and comments indicates a less engaged audience.

Check the Hook

The hook is key! It’s the element that captures attention in the first 3-5 seconds of your content. Whether it’s a video thumbnail or the first sentence of a post, you need a strong opening to draw people in. Look at your competitors’ hooks and figure out why they work.

Analyze the Framework

Content that works usually follows a specific framework:

Understand how your competitors incorporate these elements. What’s the value they’re offering? Are they providing tips, sharing stories, or offering insights? After the value, how do they encourage action? The CTA is crucial in guiding the next step, whether it’s clicking a link, signing up, or leaving a comment.

>>> Model, Don’t Copy: Once you have a solid understanding of the top-performing content and its structure, you can start modeling it. Don’t copy it word for word, but instead, adapt the framework to your brand’s unique style.

Step 3: Perfect Your Caption Strategy

Your caption is just as important as your visual content. Whether long or short, your caption should clearly align with your objective. For example, if you’re in the engagement phase, your caption should encourage comments, shares, and saves.

For lead generation, you can automate actions using tools like ManyChat. For instance, by commenting on a post, users can automatically receive a free resource or guide. This increases engagement while providing value to your followers.

Step 4: Make Hashtags Work for You

Hashtags aren’t the focus, but they do play a role in getting your content discovered. When using hashtags, aim for low to medium competition, but with high intent. This helps you show up in searches and reach a broader audience. Don’t stress over trying to find the perfect hashtag—use those that categorize your content and align with what your audience is searching for.

Step 5: Maximize Leads and Track Performance

Now that you know how to create compelling content, the next step is to convert that engagement into leads. You can track leads through comments, sign-ups, or link clicks.

Here’s how you track performance at each stage
Awareness

Monitor views and reach. These metrics tell you how many people have seen your content.

Engagement

Look for comments, shares, saves, and likes. Shares and comments require more effort from your audience, so they’re great indicators of higher engagement.

Leads

Track actions like link clicks or form submissions. If someone’s taking action on your offer, they’re showing commitment.

Conclusion: Build a Content Strategy That Delivers

To recap

By following these steps, you’ll be able to create content that works every time, from building awareness to generating leads. Remember, it’s all about consistency, strategy, and learning from others. Don’t just copy—model and adapt successful strategies to fit your brand.
